The “Entourage Effect”, a term coined by Israeli organic chemists Raphael Mechoulam and S. Ben-Shabat, explains how cannabinoids produce their most powerful effects only when they work together! While CBD and THC are the most thoroughly researched cannabinoids on their synergistic effects working together, less popular cannabinoids like cannabinol (CBN) and cannabigerol (CBG) produce similar synergistic benefits within the human body. Additionally, other compounds found in cannabis such as terpenes and flavonoids also play a role in producing cannabis entourage effects. These entourage effects enables more beneficial effects with less side effects.
So how do THC, CBD, and terpenes all interact to create the entourage effect? While more research is needed to fully understand this concept, we have some basic theories. For example, one theory is that the terpenes help other compounds in cannabis cross the blood-brain barrier, impacting the body’s absorption and subsequent effects.
What does all this mean? Basically, it’s becoming more clear that using the whole plant is more beneficial than the isolated molecules of THC or CBD, or distilled extracts which also strip important components of the original plant matter.
The term “Full-Spectrum CBD” originally referred to CBD products containing the full profile of cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids found in the original plant. Unfortunately, through lazy marketing practices, this term has become diluted to referring to any CBD product containing multiple cannabioniods.
That’s why Oneness refers specifically to “whole flower” hemp and cannabis because our technology and products incorporate the incredibly diverse plant material found in the original organic plant, over 400 unique molecules.
Raphael Mechoulam, calls cannabis a “neglected pharmacological treasure trove”. Aiming for the entourage effect, is the most ideal way to unlock the wonders of this treasure trove!
